All your questions answered.

What should I look for when choosing an Image Consultant?

  • Firstly, it's adviseable to check that your consultant has received professional training from an Audited Training Provider (ATP), recognised for meeting professional training standards within the image profession.  You can find a list of ATP's on the Federation of Image Professionals International (FIPI) website.
  • Read the consultant's testimonials.  These will give an insight into how professional, friendly and knowledgable they are and an idea of what results you can expect.
  • Your chosen consultant should be happy to answer any questions you may have prior to making an appointment with them.  You should feel confident that they will tailor a consultation to your personal objectives.

How can I justify the cost of a consultation?

A colour and/or style consultation is a long term investment in yourself.  Think about how much you might spend on a facial or other beauty treatments - these are often expensive and the results will last for a very short time.  The knowledge you gain during your consultation is with you for life, providing you with the information you need to look your best every day.  Clients often tell me that they have saved so much money since their consultation, through avoiding the purchasing mistakes they made in the past.

COLOUR ANALYSIS

What can I expect of a colour analysis session?

For an accurate outcome the analysis is best carried out without make-up, so you will be asked not to wear any or to remove it on arrival for your session.  You will have your clothes covered with a white cape to provide a 'blank canvas' and you may be asked to cover your hair if it is coloured.

The analysis itself consists of placing numerous sets of precision dyed drapes around you, close to your face, and your consultant will be analysing the effect each drape has on your skintone, eye and hair colour.  The shades that harmonise and flatter your natural colouring will determine your colour palette and you will be provided with lots of advice on using your swatch.

Will I have to completely change my wardrobe?

Not at all.  You will be given advice on adapting your current clothing if the colours are not so flattering.  As you replace items you can start to build a wardrobe of clothes based on your most flattering shades, providing you with a flexilble, workable wardrobe.

What if my favourite colours are not in my swatch?

Don't worry.  You will be shown how you can incorporate your favourite colours into your wardrobe.  However, once you start wearing new shades from your swatch and receiving compliments from friends and family, you may discover new favourites.

I had my colours done some years ago.  Would I still benefit from an analysis?

Absolutely.  As we get older the pigmentation in our skin and hair starts to fade.  This can have an effect on the shades that work best for you.  You may find that there will be a slight adjustment in your colour palette.

COSMETICS

Is the make-up range suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes.  All products are hypoallergenic and are not tested on animals.  A full list of ingredients is available for you to view at your consultation.

STYLE/BODYLINE ANALYSIS

Will I be expected to take my clothes off?

Absolutely not.  Unlike the programmes you might have seen on TV, you won't need to remove any of the clothes, perhaps just your shoes, and there are no 3-way mirrors.  I will take a few measurements and make a visual assessment in front of a full length mirror, but there is nothing to worry about or feel uncomfortable with.

Will I have to buy a lot of new clothes?

Not necessarily.  You will be advised on styles of clothing, weights of fabrics etc., and lots of detailed information written down for you to take home with you.  You may wish to buy new clothes once you have reviewed your wardrobe, but you will also be given lots of advice on adapting clothes to ensure you get continued wear from them.
